Without much marketing and promotions, Kita Kita became a box-office hit. According to Inquirer, the independent movie earned over 300 million pesos, making it the highest-grossing independent movie in Philippine cinema. The success of the movie was also attributed by people making reviews of it online and by encouraging other people to watch it as well.
Kita Kita’s director, Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, said, Their reviews are all so lengthy. I am happy that Filipinos are now becoming more critical in watching movies, and I am thankful to the overwhelming support of colleagues from the independent and mainstream industry. It’s a happy film, I guess. It’s a repolyo (cabbage) film.”
In the same interview, Binibining Joyce Bernal, one of the films producers, said that the unlikely pairing of Alessandra and Empoy was their way of going against the usual love teams that we see on mainstream media.
“Rom-com is not just about Piolo or John Lloyd (Cruz), or those heartthrob type of guys,” Bernal said.
