In 2010, Bettina Carlos showed up at the Star Magic Ball looking her best. Even without a date, she stunned in a custom ruffled dress tailored by local designer Sassa Jimenez. The corset alone was a perfect fit – so much so, in fact, that you couldn’t even tell that she was hiding a baby bump at the time.
Looking back on her younger days, the Kapuso actress told Smart Parenting that she dreamed of becoming a mom, but not as early as when she got pregnant at 23. It also didn’t help that her baby daddy happened to be “a man who was not my boyfriend at that time,” ultimately forcing her to raise her child alone.
According to Bettina, she instantly let go of her party-going lifestyle the moment she found out that she was pregnant. Although, like other young moms, she needed some time for it all to sink in.
Talking to Smart Parenting, she said:
“Sabi ko, Lord, baka pinaparusahan mo lang ako. I’m not ready. Pero kung talagang binibigay mo ito sa akin, tatanggapin ko na siya nang buong-buo.”

It’s a good thing that she had the support of her family. Through the highs and lows of her pregnancy, Bettina Carlos always had her grandma to count on.
“She would comfort me and tell me, ‘Apo, pag umiiyak ka, umiiyak ang anak mo. Kung anong nararamdaman mo, nararamdaman ng anak mo.’ So it’s very important that when you’re carrying life, that you bring life to it. You bring it joy, be happy, because it feels what you feel.”
Now, Bettina Carlos takes pride in being a mother to her unica hija, Gummy. Her other roles in life only come second to motherhood.
