After quadriplegic man Joel Jackson and his wife Lauren Wiles became famous for their touching wedding dance online, the inspiring couple has become open with their journey as a family thus far.
In a scoop from the Daily Mail, the newly weds revealed that they’re already planning to start a family. This, despite Joel being differently-abled from a car accident in 2009. While everyone thought that he wouldn’t survive (he reportedly suffered from spine, jaw, and brain stem damage), he was able to hold onto life with support from friends, family, and Lauren herself.
Joel has come so far since the unfortunate incident.
According to Lauren, they are planning to make their family in the natural way, although everything has to be done in accordance with her husband’s medication.
‘He has complete feeling and everything works down there – most of the time. With that being said, everything physically and intimately, has to be completely coordinated and we can’t be spontaneous. We have to plan nearly every part of our day, which leaves very little room for spontaneity.”
But, if it so happens that she isn’t able to conceive, Lauren and Joel are open to the prospect of adopting a child.
As furthered by the proud wife, the quadriplegic husband’s paternal instinct will make him a perfect father.
“From a physical and [REDACTED]ual stand point, he can father a child just like anyone who isn’t paralyzed.”
Talking about their marriage, Lauren said that Joel’s condition doesn’t stand a chance to the love she has for him.
“Joel is there for me in ways no one else is. I’m not attracted to someone because of what they can do for me or because of some ability. I’m attracted to Joel because of who he is and how he supports me emotionally. He is inspirational and loving. Some may never understand that, and that’s okay for them. When I’m going through something, Joel knows just what words I need to help me overcome it.”
